Colin Dixon is a Senior Technology Executive with experience building and managing all aspects of a technical business. His areas of focus include business alignment (strategy, organization and process), business development, market strategy, company evangelism and contract negotiation. He has extensive experience in the rich media, communications, networking and network management industries where he has a proven record of developing and delivering top quality products and services on time to meet market needs.  He has successfully built strong customer focused organizations and established successful third party relationships to align with business goals in both large (Microsoft, Oracle) and small companies.

 

Mr. Dixon is a Senior Analyst with The Diffusion Group. The Diffusion Group is a research and analysis company dedicated to primary research in new consumer technologies. His practice is focused on enhanced TV applications including Guides, iTV, iAD and Middleware in the cable, IPTV and satellite industries. He just published an extensive industry report covering the titanic changes affecting TV Program Guides called “Program Guides at the Crossroads: The IPG Gets Personal.”

 

In his own consulting practice, Mr. Dixon has recently completed projects with GuideWorks LLC, a joint venture between Comcast and TVGuide, and Alticast, a Korean OCAP and DVB-MHP middleware provider. For GuideWorks, he completed a 360º competitive review of a European Satellite vendor including an analysis of impact on the US market. For Alticast, he is appearing at various tradeshows on behalf of the company and also provided strategic planning, positioning and business development assistance. Recently, for Kasenna (a video on demand vendor) he established an OEM agreement with a stream encryption vendor and was instrumental in repositioning the company as a multi-product, solutions vendor leading a press and analyst tour of Europe in support of the company re-launch.

 

At Liberate Technologies, Mr. Dixon was Vice President of Applications and Content. He was responsible for building end-to-end applications and services for the satellite and digital cable television markets and has worked with industry titans such as Comcast, AT&T, Cox and NTL/Telewest. He had overall responsibility for the Liberate PopTV Program, the world's leading partner program for interactive TV, which included such household names as Discovery Channel, Showtime, ESPN, BBC and Channel 4. He was also responsible for BiTV, a broadcast interactive television service, on the AT&T HITS network.

 

Before Liberate, Mr. Dixon was General Manager of Cable Services for the Web TV division of Microsoft Corporation, managing engineering, business development, deployments, operations and sales. He was instrumental in broadening Microsoft's interactive television solution to include widely deployed low-end set-tops and led the effort to create Microsoft’s Interactive Program Guide. He worked closely with customers such as Comcast and Cox to create new and innovative digital cable services that increased average revenue per subscriber, increased customer retention and improved subscriber satisfaction.

 

At Oracle Corporation, Mr. Dixon was the Head of the Interactive Television Division where he drove the development of Oracle's market-leading Video Server Platform (OVS). OVS has been the foundation of the most successful interactive television deployments in the world. Mr. Dixon aggressively pursued the Telco and cable markets scoring major account wins at customers such as Canal+, Time-Warner and Telia working closely with hardware partners such as SGI, nCUBE and Compaq.

 

Prior to Oracle, Mr. Dixon was Director of Engineering at Interlink Computer Sciences where he successfully spearheaded the entry of the company into the TCP/IP Network Management market. Mr. Dixon managed a variety of software engineering projects at Novell including Lanalyzer for Windows, LAN Workplace and ManageWise NetWare Server Manager.

 

Mr. Dixon’s development experience includes firmware for real-time communications, application development for the networking industry and control systems for the Power Industry. He has written code for every release of MS Windows from 1.0 through Windows 95 and NT. He has extensive computer communications, networking, network management and digital video experience.

 

Mr. Dixon graduated from the University of Reading in England with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He holds a Masters in Engineering from the University of Florida and has post-graduate business education experience from Stanford. He is a published author and accomplished speaker including presentations at major industry shows like NAB.
